Amazing experience in Andalucía

Imagen
The experience of accompanying my friend Jose Maria in his competition in Andalusia could not be more good, besides enjoying the competition, he got first place in one of the races and third in the second of them! Great result for him. From my point of view, I had not gone to any paddle surfing competition in my life so the experience sure I could only prove good. And in fact, it was. I have enjoyed as a small child as I have been able to enjoy the weekend of what I like to do in the company of very good competitors. In short, it has been a weekend to revalidate the love for this sport.

ON OUR WAY TO THE WEEKEND RACE!

Hi all! I am writting this post when there are only two hours left to start our journey to Málaga. This morning dawned good to enjoy the last training of José María and I have the chance to enjoy the training too (of course with less rhythm tan him).   The training has been at 7 o´clock and I woke up at 6 o´clock to have breakfast and have ready to the morning session.   The aim of this training was to activate before we have to stay in the car long time ago. We enjoy the good weather there were this morning and we could row 30 minutes at a steady and medium rate as a main part of the training. First of all, we did games as a warm up and that served us to take away all the pressure of the university leasons and all the hard work that we have to do all this month. Finally we did some stretches and we went to have lunch our favourite lunch: ham sándwich with tomato. Now, we are at home preparing all stuff we are going to need all the weekend. I will writte a n

Hi SUPlovers! Today I am very excited about how I am going to tell you! I am going to travel to Malaga for the La Herradura SUP FEST ! The reason of this travel is to be next to my friend José María, the person who writtes in this blog too about technical things of SUP race. He, as you know, is a good racer of this sport and I never went to support him on a race and I am very excited. As you know, I am a SUP begginer and have the chance of learn how great racers or great people of different SUP modalities enjoy in the water is a good chance to improve in the water (and you know wich is the situation about the beaches condition´s where we live, so maby, this weekend I have the oportunity of being in the water with my board since before we were in the cruise). But, first of all, I wanna encourage my friend José María to be the best in the sport that we love. See you in Málaga Friends! Carlos.

The history of SUP

Imagen
Hi everyone, in this post I am going to review the history of the SUP, the sport that everybody in this blog loves. I am going to review where it comes, how it improves with the years. There are 3 big stages in the history of SUP: 3000 years BC: in the old Egypt, Peru or Venice were made travels on the water with a scull but the boats were different to what we know as a SUP board or a surfing board and they used to transport things and/or people. Biggining of the 20th century: before this century, did not exist the SUP since when in 1900-1980 did begin to see the first surfers rowing on a board. This time of the history, people did not exist the wave surf, or the did row on the board, or they were surfing. 1996-now: They practiced modern SUP, like now we practice. Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama developed this new kind of SUP. From this moment, SUP were international. After we read that, we can see how big is the SUP magnitude. We can see that it is not only a s

BEWARE OF JELLYFISH

Hi, how you doing? In this post, I will tell you the history about what happened in Alicante, our city, on theese days. Well...first of all, I am going to talk about the weather. It is normal when you wanna go surfing, take care about what kind of wind will be in the beach, or if there will be sun or cloudy... When I woke up this morning, as always I do, I saw what time it would do and I said: IT´S SURFING TIME! But... wait, then I saw this picture on a local newspaper: This picture said that in Alicante there were a plague of jellyfish that had produced the red flag in our beaches. Apparently, this kind of jellyfish can be deadly to the humans and their tentacles were as long as 30 metres.  This moment in the morning were the moment when I thought that it wouldn´t ´be a good idea go surfing.  I know there are many animals in the sea and I know the sea is their habitat and it is normal when there are jellyfish but, this day was my day and finally I did not go surfi

SUP RACE. Tips for the UPWIND

Imagen
Hello everyone, today I sill l like to introduce you to the Sup race world. What’s the Upwind? Upwind is when you are paddling against the wind and it’s the hardest way to paddle. Now I would like to give you some tips about how to paddle Upwind and continue going faster.. 1st TIP: Paddle  with good rhythm... The longer the paddle is out of the water, the less we will advance, so we have to try to keep the pace. Better to give shorter paddles but with a higher rhythm. If we make slow movements the wind will slow down the advance. So the first advice is short, fast and constant paddling. 2nd TIP: Go facing the wind and  paddle straight. As soon as we turn a little and we put aside the wind exerts force on us and on the side of the table so it makes us turn automatically, so we must make an extra effort to redirect the table where we want. 3rd TIP: Advance the position of the body in the table. What we try to do by advancing our position is to lower the nose of the

Tips to choose your board?

Imagen
Hello everyone, today i will like to help you to choose your board… The first basic rule is that the heavier the rider is the board should have more volume and should be wider, to promote the stability. Is the rider is smaller it may even be very large. Be careful if you choose a board with more volume than you should, you will be carrying extra weight. There are 4 general categories of SUP boards, these categories are based on the type of activity for which they will be used: Surf, Allround, Inflatables and Racing/Touring. SUP Surf: They are generally shorter, with the nose and tail narrower and with more rocker. These qualities make the board more manageable in the wave. SUP Allround: These kinds of boards are been created to be ride in all conditions. They are very versatile and they are perfect as a first board because they’re very stable, and at the same time maintain a good slide. Ideal for paddling in calm waters but also you can use for surf your first waves. SUP Race/Tour

NEPTUNO! NO MORE WAVES PLEASE!

Last week, my classmates and me went cruising because of we are at the last college year! We were sailing on the Mediterranean Sea visiting the cities of Ajaccio, Civitavecchia, Napoli, Livorno and we should visited the city of Mónaco too, but, because of the weather, that did not be possible. The cruiser did start in Málaga and we cruised the sea to Barcelona, in Spain. It is amazing the life at the sea, the calm of the waves hitting the ship when there are a calm sea but, when there are heavy waves, the situacion changes. We, on the ship, listened that the captain avoided 8th metres waves going from Monaco´s port to Barcelona. The first days I thought that it would be amazing to sail with a hooked rope of the ship with my paddle surf board. As data, it was impossible to get off the ship in Mónaco because of the weather. When I woke up and saw through the window how the boat that should have taken us to the city moves I thought that it were a bad idea to get off t

EXPERIENCES

Hi all! How you doing? I am now in the blog to talk about last experience I had in the amazing world of SUP. We said in past posts that in Alicante there is no good weather to enjoy some modalities of SUP like surfing waves because of here, usually there is not enough wind to practice this modality. BUT, last 3, 4 days, we were the lucky ones. Here, in Alicante was good weather that caused I could introduce me to the water to enjoy the waves for my first time. It was amazing, It was incredible feelings out there. It was a cold and windy day, early in the morning and I was sleepy and angry because I love to sleep but at the same time, I felt nervous and impatient to be in the water. The morning went fine and to be my first time surfing with a SUP, I did not do it wrong. I am sure this day was the first time but not the last time, and for this week will be windy too, maybe, it is time to improve my skills...I will tell you in my next post! Carlos.
