Stand Up Paddle modalities
Hi! How are you?
First of all we will like you to introduce you to the diferentes Stand Up paddle modalities and wich ones we prefer to practice.
As we talk in our first post ‘’welcome’’ there are so many different modalities of Stand Up Paddle : race, yoga, waves, travels,etc.. but the is only two oficial modalities that are included in the competitions, this ones are: Stand Up Paddle race (SUP race) and Stand Up Paddle surfing(SUP surf). Let’s talk about them…
Stand Up Paddle race:
In this modality we use race boards that are longer and narrow than the commons one. Also their faster and there are so many differents sizes and shapes, we will talk about it in other post don't worry.
Inside the SUP race we have differents kinds of races that will depend on the conditions of the sea..
When the sea is really calm we make ‘’flatwater’’ races, with no waves and any bump.
When the sea is really windy and choppy we make ‘’technical races’’ that we go upwind-sidewind and downwind this ones are really annoying.
When the wind is really strong we make ‘’Downwind’’ races that we have to race in the direction of the wind catching bumps and this ones are the fastest races.
And finally we have the ‘Beach’ races this ones we make when we have waves, so we first past the wave make some pivot turns and then we come back surfing the waves.
Stand Up Paddle surfing:
This modality is just the same as surfing competitions. We use stand up paddle surfing very similar to surfing boards but bigger so we can stand up on the board all time. The good thing about this modality vs surfing is that you can make it also when the waves are small because are easy to catch them using your paddle.
¿Which modality we used to practice? Ok, as we comment before we used practice sea sports and also SUP.
Ignacio practice SUP surfing, he is a really good surfer but as we all know here in Alicante we don't have waves every day so he practices SUP surfing when the waves are small. José María practice SUP race he's always on the sea training it doesn't matter how the conditions are he trains really hard in all the conditions to be prepared for his races. And finally Carlos is introducing himself to this world practising waves, racing and just enjoying this great sport. Here you can find some different board depending on the modalities you choose: http://www.naishsurfing.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/2013SUPCatalog_web2.pdf
